THE NORTHERN KENTUCKY SEARCHER VOLUME 7, NUMBER 5, FEBRUARY 4, 2007 THINGS THAT WILL BE HAPPENING I wanted to devote a portion of this bulletin to discussing some of the particulars concerning things that will be taking place this year at the Northern Kentucky Church of Christ. The elders are excited and looking forward to getting things rolling. The congregation is going to be divided into five different work groups. Each one of these groups will be helped out by two of the deacons. The deacons have already done a lot of talking and work in preparation for this. Each group will meet once every five weeks on Sunday evening after services. The meetings will be limited to no more than half an hour. These groups will be sending cards to those who are sick, notes of appreciation to those who visit with us, and letters of encouragement to those who need a little help and exhortation. The groups are going to begin meeting on February 18. Everyone will be informed concerning which group they are in and the deacons who will be helping their group. There have been several mentions of the program of mailing that we are going to be engaging in. Let me give you some specifics. First of all, it is the groups that will make this possible. We have arranged for a bulk mailing permit and our goal is to mail information into at least 200 homes a week, 200 is the minimum number allowed for a bulk mailing. The church has purchased a Criss-Cross Directory. This gives us names and addresses in the Northern Kentucky area. We have also purchased from the same company a service known as First Contact. Each month we will receive the names and addresses of those who have moved into the area. The area is based upon the Zip Codes and includes Florence, Burlington, Hebron, Union, Walton, Independence, and Erlanger/Elsmere. For January we received 173 different names and addresses. Each Sunday evening the group that is meeting that week will be responsible for hand addressing the bulk mailing. The names and addresses will be provided. This will be in addition to the cards and letters sent to members of the congregation and visitors. The mailing will consist of a #10 business envelope that will contain a #9 envelope with our address on it, the first lesson of a new 4 lesson correspondence course, the pamphlet called Introducing the Northern Kentucky Church of Christ, and a very short letter explaining the correspondence course and how to get started. Mark Raymer wrote the Intro to the church and Elizabeth Dodd did the work of laying it out. We will be using pre-cancelled stamps for the mailings. The elders recognize that we will have to see how this all works out, but in case all of the mailing cannot be completed in the time allotted on Sunday evening, some could be taken home, addressed there, and brought back on Wednesday. The mailings will be sent out each Thursday. It is hoped that every one will want to take part in this good work and be excited about it. If one person is contacted and converted as a result of this work, who could possibly put a price upon that in terms of money or time? ANOTHER ADULT BIBLE CLASS Due to several requests, the elders have decided that a second adult Bible class will be offered beginning in March when the new quarter for the children’s classes begins. It will be held on Sunday morning and the first one will be specifically for new converts or those who are relatively new Christians, the elders have been thinking 5 years or less. These classes will last for thirteen weeks each. Some other class subjects that have been suggested are Marriage and Family and a study on Attitudes. Due to the fact that they will be presented in a classroom, the number of people who can attend each class will be limited. Perhaps there are some subjects that you would like to see studied in a 13 week class. If so, please mention it to one of the elders. The adult class in the auditorium will continue to study specific books of the Bible in an in-depth manner. DOOR-TO-DOOR This is something else that the elders are really excited about and hope and pray that you will be as well. We are planning door-to-door work one Saturday morning a month beginning in April. We are only talking about an hour or so each time with no “goal” number of doors to knock on. We just want to talk to people, let them know that we are here, give them the opportunity for a private bible study and a chance to enroll in the correspondence course. If you knock on 40 doors or only 3 because you got a chance to really talk to someone, it won’t matter. It is simply the idea of us being out there doing the work, trying as hard as we can to get the gospel out. We will be using the same pamphlet as in the mailing and the same correspondence course. I believe the program of work that is planned is just plain exciting. I’ll tell you what, I believe that just being here is plain exciting. The enthusiasm, love, and willingness to work that generally characterizes this congregation is so uplifting. If you haven’t got that same feeling yet, throw yourself into the work because it is contagious.
