THERE IS A LOT GOING ON

I thought that it might be a good thing to utilize this bulletin just to remind and inform all of us of the many good things that are going on here at Northern Kentucky.  We have so much to be thankful for and so many ways to be involved, using any and all talents that we have in service to the Lord.

Obviously there are the Sunday and Wednesday services and bible studies that are conducted here each week.  Did you realize that it takes 10 men for each Sunday morning service, 7 for each Sunday evening service, and 4 for each Wednesday evening service?  Did you also know that as it stands now, it takes 17 different teachers for each quarter of our organized bible studies?  For those willing to serve, the opportunities exist.

We are starting Vacation Bible School on Monday – an event that a lot of people put a great deal of work into.   It is another opportunity for each of us to learn and participate.  Each spring and each fall the elders organize a weeklong meeting of special gospel lessons for the edification of the congregation here and for the spreading of the gospel to the community.  We also have the opportunity to participate in passing out invitations to these events to the community and to our friends and neighbors.  This is yet another way to work for the Lord.

Several of our members, especially Danny Brewer, Mark Raymer, and Kim Saylor, do an excellent job on our website.  I know next to nothing about technology – and I confess that I like it that way – but these folks do.  They keep it up to date, answer questions, place material on the site for others to use, and so much more.  There are several taking the correspondence course in numerous places around the world as a result of the Northern Kentucky correspondence course.  We need to give a special mention to Vickie Raymer in this area.  Vickie handles the grading and the mailing out of the correspondence courses.

We will be going back on the air Monday at 3:30 on WTSJ, 1050 on the AM dial.   Once again, Bible Talk will be a call-in program for Bible study and discussion.  The station’s signal reaches as far north as the southern suburbs of Dayton, west as far as Batesville, southwest to around Carrollton, south to a bit this side of Lexington, and as far east as Hillsboro.  This is made possible by the weekly contributions here.  There will be lots of opportunities for service related to the program, such as answering the telephone during the program, mailing out material, and visiting individuals who complete the correspondence courses.

We have a fine, functional facility that is large enough to enable us to grow unencumbered by lack of space.  Here was a great opportunity for service, and it will continue to be for a while.  After Vacation Bible School there will be some moving to be done.  Classrooms will be moved and the resource material brought back into the building from the basement of the house we purchased to facilitate the building of the new wing.  Here will be another opportunity to get your hands dirty and get involved.  A great deal of the work was done by volunteers.  If you didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to volunteer to help yet, there is still a great deal to be done related to the grounds.  Give of your time and your self.

If all goes as planned, on June 18 a few of us will be going to Beaver Dam, Kentucky to pick up a library for the church that will consist of somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200 volumes.  It will be an incredible asset for this church – something that would have taken years and years and a great deal of money to accumulate.  The Lord has blessed us with  the opportunity to get it all at once.  We will be making a library out of one of the new rooms.  It will be complete with a desk and a computer for individuals to use in their bible study and lesson preparations.  Much work will have to go into it, but it will be well worth it.

We have new families that have moved into the area, bringing with them enthusiasm and children.  We have had older folks move in with their steadfastness and experience.  There is a great deal of interaction within the congregation, evidencing the fact that most of us truly enjoy being together, and not just at the services.

As we slowly get the building project completely behind us, we will be in an even better position to throw ourselves whole-heartedly into the task of taking the gospel into the Tri-state area.  Every single one of us can have a part in that work.  There is a lot that is very good going on here. Don’t let it go on without you.

WHEN I MISS

Have you ever considered the HARM when you miss the services of the Lord?  Let us list a few.  (1) You withhold from yourself needed edification.  (2) You set a bad example (especially before new converts and your children.  (3) You miss the fellowship of God’s people.  (4) You fail to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” Matt. 6:33.  (5) You have essentially voted to shut down or cancel that service of the Lord – because if everybody did what you did, nobody would be there.  (6) You are telling the world that there is something in your life more important than church attendance.

Some would say, “What about sick people?”  Obviously, the above does not apply to sick folks and invalids.  Frankly, when such a question is asked, I am reminded of those folks who ask me about deathbed confession in an attempt to deny the necessity of baptism for salvation.  None of those who have asked me have actually been on their deathbed.  Most who would say “What about sick people” to excuse lack of attendance are not sick, at least physically.  This applies to those who could come and just don’t.
