VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Mark your calendars now, June 14 – 17!  As we draw near to summer it is once again time for our Vacation Bible School .  We can look forward to seeing the enthusiasm of the children when they sing Bible songs, and the joy on their faces when they learn more about God and His Son, Jesus.  Our children and grandchildren benefit more than we can measure because of the classes that have Christ as their center.  Don’t forget that there have been provisions for the adult classes, as well.  In the past these classes have proven to be edifying and uplifting, as I’m sure they will be again this year.  What a joy and privilege it is to assemble with the saints, provoking one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10: 24 – 25).

This year the congregation has decided to develop our own material for the VBS.  The theme is “OUR JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND”.  The five lesson titles are:

Lesson 1 – Birth of Moses

                        Lesson 2 – Burning Bush

Lesson 3 – Pharaoh and the Plagues

Lesson 4 – Ten Commandments & the Golden Calf

Lesson 5 – Israel in the Wilderness/Death of Moses

Even though the lessons are about Moses, the desire is to tie them to the life of Jesus and to teach practical lessons with Christ as the center.  We learn from Deuteronomy 18:15 that “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken.”  It should be a natural flow to compare and consider the life of Moses with that of our Lord Jesus.

Members here have been working hard to make this VBS a positive experience for all of us.  Our appreciation goes to Christians.  Do your part by bring your children, your grandchildren, your children’s friends, and yes, yourself.  Make plans now to attend all week.

REMEMBER: JUNE 17 – 21, “OUR JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND.”

“THE WORD OF THE LORD HAS SOUNDED FORTH FROM YOU.”

The title of this short article comes from the first chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians.  It is found in verse 8, and is part of his commendation of the fine brethren there.  Paul wrote, “For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything.”

We have just completed another gospel meeting at Northern Kentucky .  All who attended would agree, I am sure, that Wayne did his job in presenting the gospel in sincerity and in truth.  While he did point out error, he did so with love in his heart and genuine concern for the lost.  He was true to the Book, and that is all that can be asked of a gospel preacher.

A lot of work went into the preparation for that meeting.   Three thousand invitations were passed out in the community by at least 35 of us – probably more.  Sometimes folks wonder what good it does to go door-to-door.   This time we received calls and visits as a result of the pass out.  However, whether people come or not; whether they call or not, whether they read the invitation or ball it up and throw it in the garbage, is not to be our worry.  Our job is to give them the opportunity to hear the truth.  Our job is to let them know that there is a group of people in this community who are preaching the truth, who love the truth, and who love them.

In Colossians 4:2 – 4, Paul wrote, “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God may open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; in order that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak.”  God is giving us an open door of opportunity!  The Vacation Bible School is just five weeks away.  The decision has been made to distribute another 3,000 invitations to the community in anticipation of that event.  We will be going into another area.  Erlanger will be the focus where there are lots of young families with children.  Who knows, the invitation that you place on somebody’s door might be the very thing that causes them to come and hear the gospel of the Lord.  They may respond in humble obedience to it and be faithful all their days.  They may raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and their children may in turn do the same thing to their children.  There could be preachers and elders to come out of that family and many, many people be led to Christ because you cared enough to put that invitation on their door or mailbox.

We had over 50 people turn out to help clean the building and that was great.  Wouldn’t it be something if we had over 50 people turn out to help invite our neighbors who are lost and desperately in need of the truth.  We will be giving out more information in the bulletin and announcements when the day of the distribution has been decided upon.

“For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you.”
